Cool Hunter
Your attitude, your style, your music, your lifestyle and your tools - all of it figures into what makes you a cool hunter.

Cool hunting is a trend among people that are obsessed with great design and travel the globe looking for it.  As hunters, many of us are obsessed with design, but for most of us, function trumps form.  Yet, when form and function collide in a simple way, we often find the very best performing and definitely some very cool hunting products.  Benelli_Vinci_Cool_Hunter_Simple_Design_Cool_Hunting_GearIf you had to pick the coolest hunting products you've ever used, what would you choose?  Why would you choose them?  What do you like about them?

Benelli – the Italian gun maker previously used the tagline "Performance Worth The Price".  As a Benelli owner, I agree with that statement.  They make a great product, a beautiful product, a versatile product, and a product that's greatness comes from the simplicity of its design.  If you've ever taken apart an SBE, you know how easy it is to clean, how few moving parts it has, how easy it is to put back together, how it is quite simply a cool hunting product.  Perhaps that is why in recent years Benelli changed it's tagline from "Performance Worth the Price" to "Simply Perfect".  They picked up on what their loyal owners already knew…that the perfection of this product, it's "cool factor", came from not over-designing it, but rather from streamlining it and making it adaptable to many different hunting situations.  They realized that it had risen above being simply a cool hunting product, to becoming almost a piece of art.  Following the artistic theme, their newest cool hunting product was named the Vinci.  Benelli says, "Driven by a passion for efficiency and simplicity, Benelli engineers have advanced the cutting edge. The superbly balanced Vinci embodies a new way of looking at design.  The revolutionary new in-line Inertia Driven operating system, with superior reliability and lightning fast speed, is the simplest semi-auto operating system ever devised".  I can't wait to get my hands on a Vinci and to put it through a field test.  It looks like a great product.

What cool hunting products inspire you?  What are your favorites and why?  How do they help you in the field?  Please tell us about them in the comments section below.

Two products that inspire me are also in the firearm family. The first is my Remington BDL700 .270. Besides the fact that it was my first rifle, it has the high gloss walnut stock. Every time I remove it from its case, I take a moment to look at the quality finish and beauty of it. I know it is simply a tool of the trade, so to speak, but I also view it as a piece of art. This does present a drawback for me, though. As silly as this sounds, I cringe when I have to take it out in the rain. I also seem to take extra precautions to prevent getting it scratched up. I love to shoot it as it is extremely accurate and has a nice flat trajectory. I love to set up on a soy bean or corn field edge with this gun. This brings me to my Marlin 30/30. I love this rifle for the complete opposite reasons. To me, this is a no-nonsense 'hunter's' gun. It is simple, no fancy finish, but gets the job done. I love to carry this into the woods because it is light, nimble, and shorter than most other guns so I am not getting it hung up on overhaning limbs. It is also very accurate, has more than enough power to harvest deer, and has enough range for the majority of deer hunting situations I put myself in. I don't mind scratches or rain. I don't abuse it, but I definately use it w/o being too cautious. I'm definatly looking forward to using both this coming season here in the Bluegrass state.
